DIRECTIONS UNIT: Props

A week till the day I'm finally filming and it's time to organise myself and buy my props.
As you may all know the engagement ring, is the most important prop in my whole film. I started looking for simple engagement rings that don't really symbolise anything, and won't really be the focus in my film. However, later on I realised that it's one of the most important prop in the whole film and should be the focus and should provoke a meaning which will be clearly shown to the audience.
So I searched the colour of freedom on the internet and the majority of people believe is transparent; but then I searched some more and found that freedom is seen through water and air, and so the colour blue, although it's mostly identified as the colour of sadness and loneliness, it is actually the colour of my theme: FREEDOM.
I immediately went to search on blue engagement rings, mostly tinted blue diamond rings. I came across a few but I still thought that they didn't fit with the whole concept and they didn't seem to match with my character's personality. And so, I continued searching for the perfect one, by saving various images of rings, in different sizes, colours & designs; analysing each one of them and how each of their designs could evoke this sense of freedom into my film.

I also found that freedom is also related to snow and snowflakes which would be quite interesting if the ring was in the shape of a snowflake and the part where Oliver says "...they said it might snow..", could be a double connotation in the film.
At last though I found the ring that would not create a great difference to my film but it would surely show this entrapment of freedom in the jewel the ring holds.

The ring I used in my film.
