COMMISSION DOCUMENTARY UNIT: Editing Workshop

Today we had an editing workshop with BBC picture editor, John Ramsden. Towards the end of the lecture we were set a task to edit some footage that Helen, our unit leader, filmed at the stone masonry in Canterbury.
It was extremely helpful as we were given a manuscript of the mini interview, that Helen filmed with one of the apprentice stonemasons there, with highlighted bits of what Helen wanted from the interview to include in the videos we edited. It was quite a challenging task as our sound had to be fluid and not get interrupted or be a rough edit. At some point I got annoyed as the sentences that Helen highlighted wouldn't join properly, but in the end it all went well.
When I showed John Ramsden the first version of my edit, he was impressed by how well the sound was edited and how artsy the video was, although I hadn't inserted the extra bits of footage, such as the parts where the sculptors/stonemasons are working or the close ups of the stones.
Overall, I thought that it was a great workshop and it made me realise that even the simplest factors of editing can be the most challenging ones.
Below I've attached my final edit of the video: (I would improve a lot of it if I had more time, but I'm impressed with how well the sound clips combine)

Thanks for reading & watching.
Yours,
I.
