PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE: PQA Experience [First Day]

Today I started my work placement at the Pauline Quirk Academy (PQA) in Rochester.
At first, when I got there, I was quite nervous as to what this experience might be like and what I would expect.
In the past I've worked with children and teenagers; when I was back in school, I organised a photography class for teenagers between the ages of 14-17, which also counted for my service hours for CAS (one of the main three elements every student must have whilst studying the International Baccalaureate- IB)- teaching the students the process of black & white traditional photography and the process of the development of their films to actual pictures. I also was a teacher's assistant for nursery and reception kids, which required me to do various tasks throughout the day- mainly taking care of children that required extra help with their academics, organising each day's lesson plans, helping out with the making of props (for theatrical and musical plays), making photocopies of worksheets, etc. and many more.
Today, Hannah and I were asked to assist Hayley, TV & Film teacher, for the day- especially to help out with the flaming process of some of the anti-bullying videos that they were making, in order for them to enter the to PQA's film festival. All day I was mainly behind the camera, though I also assisted the directors of each film, as most of them seemed unorganised in general.
Overall, as a first day, I instantly felt like I was part of the PQA team as all the teachers were extremely helpful with any queries I had or any problems I had to face.
Going in to this job, at PQA, was firstly exciting but at the same time scary, as I haven't really taught others the process of Film and TV making, one of the reasons being that I'm still a student myself and I'm still in the process of learning. However, I think this whole experience will make me more confident about what I want to do in the future and if my passion of working with children is something I would want to continue as a proper career. It will also make me experience new things, in terms of dealing with different ages groups and the way I have to approach each and every one of them.
Hope you enjoyed about my first day at my work placement.
I'll make sure to post more about it.
Yours,
I.
