COMMISSION DOCUMENTARY UNIT: Research

ALL ABOUT AUTISM:

WHAT IS AUTISM?
According to www.autism.org.uk:
"Autism is a lifelong developmental disability that affects how a person communicates with, and relates to, other people. It also affects how they make sense of the world around them."
There are actually many people around the UK that have autism. In fact, studies show that more than 1 in every 100 people, has autism. However, it's not always evident that someone is autistic just by looking at them, which is the reason why it's sometimes called "the hidden disability".

DIFFICULTIES OF AN AUTISTIC PERSON:

  • Difficulty to express their emotion, and show their needs.
  • Difficulty in socialising (making new friends, interact with other people, etc.)
  • Difficulty to understand other people's feelings and emotions (not being able to tell what other people are feeling or thinking)
However, not all autistic people have these difficulties, as autism varies within people.
It is still unclear as to why autism is caused, but it is known that it can be genetic, which means it can pass from parent to child. What we know is that more than 1 person in a family can have autism.

As for, if there is a cure:

I'll be writing more soon.
Yours,
I.
