FICTION ADAPTATION: Costumes

RESEARCH:

After watching a lot of moving videos (like the ones I've attached above about the homecoming of modern day soldiers and their emotional reunion with their families), I decided to focus on the costume aspect of this project and had to ask myself what exactly each character will be wearing for my film.
So I first searched on Google what modern day soldiers' uniforms look like, in order for me to have some sort of idea of what Ernest, my main character, will be wearing.

I first went on to search for a military uniform that I would rent out for a couple of days (just for my filming), but later on found out that it would cost me around 100£ just to hire it out for ONE day and so I decided against it, since I don't have a big budget to work with. Then I went on and searched through costume shop websites for military uniform look-alike but found the stereotypical costumes that everyone would associate a soldier wearing, or something that you would wear for Halloween. So due to the fact that I want my piece to be taken seriously and not just be 'another cheap-looking student film', I looked back at the videos of the soldiers returning to their families and noticed that most of them wore either a camo print t-shirt with khaki trousers and boots (some of them also wore a hat) or a khaki t-shirt with camo print trousers & boots.
Therefore, I visited various online shopping sites (i.e. Asos, Amazon, Ebay, Urban Outfitters, Zara, Topshop/man, etc.), that I often use to order my own clothes, and looked for camo print & khaki clothes for my actor to wear. But before I order them I will have to ask for the sizes that would fit the actor that I'm going to use, which will happen as soon as I know who I'm going to choose after the auditions (this thursday).
Below I've attached a few screenshots of the items I found:

I also decided for him to be wearing a chain necklace
with two 'dog tags'*, which will show that he's in the
army but also has lost a friend, who's dog tag
he's also wearing (2nd dog tag on necklace).

I also had to search clothes for Anthony, my walk-in character, that we will only see for a few seconds. Since the character is in his early 20s I've decided to dress him very casual just like a guy in his age would. So his 'look' will consist of black jeans, plain t-shirt or plaid shirt, a hoodie, maybe a coat or black leather jacket on top of hoodie, a beanie and trainers (probably vans or converse all-stars). One of my inspirations for his look came from Ian Somerhalder's Teen Choice Award look that he wore in 2012.
On the left, are some looks that were also part of my inspiration for my character's look. Overall, my budget for this part of my project will have to be maximum 50£, as I will have to save money to pay for my actors' expenses.
Hopefully I will be done by the end of next week with this project, but I will be updating you all on the progress of it.
Yours,
I.
