| Young Turks (Album)- FKA Twigs |
Lately, I've been listening to a lot of songs of this particular genre: electronic/ PBR&B/ triphop/experimental, and on many occasions, whilst watching their music videos, I've found myself not liking the way the song is presented through the video that was made it. Which always makes me wonder if I would actually prefer to make music videos for a living one day. But, no need to think about this at the moment, as that's way far away into the future.
First time I heard this song, was during the summer that just passed, and I instantly fell in love with its kind of robotic, trippy tone of the song, and the haunting voice of FKA Twigs (aka TWIGS), and how the two just combined so perfectly well. But when I went back to actually watch its video, I wasn't sure about the exact concept of it, although it reminded me a lot of Kanye West's music video style, indeed of the videos for his music from his album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy and his short 30min musical film. Which was weird cause the director of FKA's music video, Nabil Elderkin, is the same one that Kanye West has used for a few of his own videos.
I then took a look into the production of FKA's music video and what the director was trying to convey through it, and found out that he actually wanted it to look more like a moving painting than anything that we are used to watch or look out for in music videos.
After reading the article (that I've attached below the link to), I totally understood why he would choose to create this a video in such a unique way.

I've also attached, below, the original music video of 'Two Weeks' by FKA Twigs:
Below I've attached a copy of FKA Tig's performance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, which I greatly got inspired from of my main concept, for my own music video adaptation of the song. I personally thought that the set design of her performance on this show, was absolutely incredible and unique just like her songs in general and music videos.
The main themes that I covered in my own video are:
• Life vs. Death
• Sex/ Prostitution/ Sex trafficking
• Drugs
• Abuse
• Cars
• Violence
• Innocense
...and they all symbolise the complications of our lives and how even the most innocent aspect of life can be drowned by our destructive lifestyle choices. Just like it's displayed in the following clip from the well-known movie 'Wolf of Wall Street' (2014) directed by Martin Scorsese:
In order to convey all these messages and themes I decided to create a trippy/ abstract video, with no real order to the story but many ideas and concepts that display all the above themes and with each video being carefully selected. I must confess, it took a very long time to collect all these videos and be selective with what exactly
I needed. However, after a long day of editing this video, I found myself more open to new ideas and concepts for my fiction adaptation, which could be very useful, since I want to convey many messages towards my audience. Below I've attached my adaptation of FKA Twig's music video. Please note that since we had a limited amount of time to plan and produce, the video below is JUST a rough cut/copy, which I will hopefully finalise, once I've finished the rest of my projects.
Thanks for reading and watching.
Yours,
I.
